Tomas - From shadow to light
When I got the call, it was clear: it was a matter of life and death. Tomas was going to be slaughtered – his old owner no longer had any use for him, too aggressive, too skinny, too difficult, too old.
17 years old, arrival: May 2025
Breed: Trotter
Sponsorship possible: 💛 Yes
He was brought with a pony to a riding school here in Mallorca, the pony was supposed to stay, he was supposed to go on to his death. The riding school took pity on him and adopted him to give him one last chance, but he was the lowest-ranking in every herd and simply didn’t put on weight. Apathetic, dismissive, without confidence in the world. They were then looking for an adopter and I was contacted via 3 corners. I travelled there and got to know him and so his fate was sealed: he could move in.
When Tomas came to me, he was little more than a skeleton on four legs. I immediately informed the vet – and it soon became clear where many of his problems came from: A huge molar had drilled deep into his gums and his entire mouth was inflamed. No wonder he was in pain, could hardly eat and was naughty.
After the dental treatment and a thorough worming, I put old Sonikete at his side – a calm, wise companion. And something began to change.
Tomas is still on his way. But he is starting to eat, rest, look and recently started to play!!! Sometimes you can see a brief moment of curiosity in his gaze – a hint of hope. Tomas is treated by a marvellous hoof trimmer who does his hooves for free out of respect for animal welfare, his name is Peter Keller, THANK YOU PETER!
‘There was darkness in his eyes – now a light of hope is blinking out.’
